Examples of uses that are not typically covered in our licenses:
- Bulk download of third-party content such as news and data for use with Text Mining or AI tools (including Copilot and AIDA)
- Use of AI tools (generative or not) for summarization or extraction, sentiment analysis, or any other purpose, even if for internal use.
Note: We are working with a number of content providers to obtain TDM / AI use rights and will document permitted uses as they are granted.
For any TDM / AI use of third-party content at the Fund, please contact Library@IMF.org BEFORE STARTING ON YOUR PROJECT!!!!
Please note that an update to the guidance below is currently being reviewed.
Current Fund guidance is that AI-generated images, videos, or music should not be used in Fund works.

If you are using AI for research assistance to produce IMF works, transparency calls for acknowledging it.
COM will provide further guidance in the near future.
The IMF has not yet formulated a standard template for this, but we recommend adding a footnote of the first page of the paper explaining your use of AI in the research. IMF Publications tend to default to the Chicago Manual of Style and here is an FAQ on citing AI Material.
Please keep in mind that if you are publishing in journals, different publishers will have different requirements.
