What is ORCID?

What is ORCID ?

ORCID stands for Open Researcher & Contributor ID and it is a URI (unique resource identifier) with a 16-digit number that is compatible with the ISO Standard

ORCID is a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher. It addresses the name ambiguity problem that arises from name change, cultural differences in name order, and inconsistent use of first name abbreviations and different writing systems. It works like an ISBN for a book or a social security number for a person.
